Hi All,
Since no one has posted here since september, I figured I would announce something fun and new to the community. Otto Frei has just introduced a 25 piece set of chasing tools that I designed and developed with a major Jewelry tool Manufacturer over the last several years. There are 25 tools in the set and it comes in a sturdy, attractive cannister. I chased professionally with a large NY based silver and jewelry company for 13 years. The tools are based on my collection of over 2000 antique chasing tools dating back over 100 years. Nothing funky or revolutionary, Just properly designed and made chasing tools. If y'all want to see them in detail, have a peek at my website Nechamkin.com They are difficult and time consuming to make, so supplies will be limited while the mfr goes through the learning curve. I expect more to become available in mid to late April. In addition to this, there will be a set of 4 to 6 pre-shaped tool blanks introduced as well. This will allow for quicker chasing tool making in the studio. Finally, I will also restore and refinish old chasing tool collections for those who do not have the equipment or desire to do so. I just completed restoring a nice old set of 300 for a local silversmith/ plater. It was exciting to remove caked on rust from the old mfr marks and marks of previous chasers. It was like excavating buried treasure. If anyone has rusty tools they havn't used yet because they are dreading the cleanup job, that is right up my alley. Toolmaker@Nechamkin.com |

Sounds like fun to refinish older chasing tools! It is always great to see unusual shapes and to discover their use. I have recommended your new tool set to some of my students who do not wish to make their own.

Hi Lisa, I taught a workshop in California and found a student who had a set of your tools. I was impressed. I appreciate that you are providing this service to the metalworking community.
Thanks, Fred
